Review: The Ruins by Scott Smith
http://moviemansguide.com/main/2008/07/review-ruins-bd/
I just finished reading this book for the third time today. Every time I read it, I find something new! This is definitely one of my favorite books. So what is The Ruins about?
Well, let's see. A quartet of young adults go on a luxurious vacation to Mexico. They meet a few interested people, and are eventually lured into the Mexican jungle to find one of their new friend's brother. Unfortunately, they find much more than that. The group stumbles upon an ancient hill top with a temple - the ruins - and the locals watch them as they make their ascent. When they try to leave the hill top, the locals grab their bow and arrows and rifles and refuse them. After lots of confusion and terror, they eventually realize why they're being quarantined - the vines inhabiting the ruins are lethal.
This novel had me on edge as each of the members is terrorized by the plants in sickening, creepy ways. I highly recommend this unorthodox, original piece of work!

Finals Week outfit
Hi!
So this next week is my finals week for college! So I created this outfit (unfortunately, I don't own any of these pieces) to show you what I would wear for my exams if I had unlimited access to all the clothes on the planet! Anyway, I avoid the hot Texas weather by wearing light weight maxi dresses and minimal makeup. A comfy pair of sneakers and dainty jewelry will complete your look and keep you comfy and content during your exams!
Are you taking any summer courses?

Memoirs of a Geisha: Inspiration
Hello!
This week I finished Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. I also saw the movie yesterday! This book is amazing!! I finished it in just a few hours. It is about a young girl, Sayuri, who is sold into slavery in Japan during the early 1900's. She works in an okiya, and eventually earns the right to attend training to become a geisha. What is a geisha?
A Geisha is an artist who specializes in song, dance, music, or art. Sayuri overcomes many obstacles to free herself from slavery to become a geisha. She finishes school and becomes the most successful Geisha in her region of Japan. She stands perseveres through wars, abuse, heart break, and financial ruin to get what she truly wants in life. Though I'm not a fan of romance, this book does a great job of keeping it to a minimum and focusing on the culture of Japan.
I highly recommend this book! The movie is available on YouTube for free as well! Enjoy!
