Dear Literature and Lace Ladies,
I just finished my first year of college. It was hard
emotionally, and mentally. Everything was new, I was alone, and my classes were
hard. With that said, there are some things that I believe that any college
girl needs to get by at college. Here are my most useful pieces of clothing and
accessories from my first year at college.
1.
Make Up Case- this was so very useful to me on a
daily basis because I live in a dorm with community bathrooms. I needed to have
all my makeup in one place so I could take it to and from the bathroom and not
lose it.
2.
Shower Shoes and Slippers- OK. SO. I used to
think that shower shoes were gross and that slippers were tacky. But guess
what? They are not as gross and tacky as the dorm floors. Nobody cleans. Nobody
vacuums. You need something to cover your feet.
3.
Hangers-
I used this hanger and also the stick on hangers this year. These are
very useful for quick accessible storage. I hung my necklaces and belts on the
hooks and my robe and jacket on the door hanger. These are also small and easy
to take in and out of a dorm.
4.
Rain Boots- Class is across campus rain or
shine, honey. Might as well look good on those rainy/snowy/slushy/muddy days.
5.
Easy to Operate Umbrella- Notice the “Easy to
Operate” part of this. I had a cute umbrella that I could not open and close
simply and I was that girl. You know the one whacking her umbrella on the
ground out of frustration and anger?
6.
Good Back Pack- This will go everywhere with
you. I hardly left my dorm all year without my backpack. Get one in a simple color
that will go with anything because you will wear it with everything. Can you
say “student”?
7.
Rain Coat- Soooo. A lot of things on my list are
related to rain… Hmm. I don’t know. Something about being prepared in the rain
makes my day go so much more smoothly. I can’t let the bad weather cramp my
style, yo.
8.
MORE- Here are some things that I did not get
pictures of that you need for your first year of college. A) Respectable
Pajamas- No body wants to see you in your XL T-shirt. B) Duct Tape/Basic Tool Kit-
I was able to hang and fix so many things on my own thanks to these beauties.
C) Laptop- renting computers is possible but not at all efficient. D) Coffee Maker- Late nights. Nuff’ Said.
Good Luck to all you who are heading out for your first
years of college after this summer! I hope that this list helps prepare you for
your freshman year.
